18th April 2009 - Death Centenary Celebration of Mother Marie des Anges

The main celebrant at the Euchartistic celebration was Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'souza , the Bishop of Mangalore. This was a historically significant event because in 1870, in this same Cathedral, Mother Marie des Anges and other A.C. pioneers were welcomed by the Bishop and the public of Mangalore .

Miss. Elisabeth Duchein and Mrs. Martine, the great grand nieces of Mother Marie des Anges came from France for the Death Centenary celebrations. They brought earth(mud) from their native village in France,Pointis Inard and placed it on the grave of Mother .

After a solemn prayer service at the grave of Mother Marie des Anges, the sisters proceeded to Rosario Cathedral for the Eucharistic Celebration.

At 9.45 a.m. more than 600 sisters coming from 6 Provinces assembled at the grave of Mother Marie des Anges at St,Ann's, Mangalore.

18th April 2009 - Death Centenary Celebration of Mother Marie des Anges, the First Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel - 1909-2009

Mother Marie des Anges, our Superior General for thirty one years, was specially chosen by God through the instrumentality of our foundress Mother Veronica, for the Indian Mission. A valiant woman of faith, she stood firm and unshaken amidst the raging winds and the initial storms that rocked the Congregation and threatened to destroy it in its very infancy. She nursed the young Congregation with deep faith in God, with motherly love and tender care and gave the Apostolic Carmel a sense of direction and firm foundation.

What is new in Kenya?

1. A Day Care Centre for children from Soweto slum at Carmelvale.

Sister Flavia is in charge of this Centre.

Sister Ann, one of our junior sister is also working there.

Two Montessori trained teachers and two helpers are appointed to teach and care for the little ones. The parents start bringing the children to the centre at 6.30 am and the last ones leave at about 5.30 pm.

The first floor rooms are for the older children from the slum.Regular coaching classes will be arranged for them so that they can do well in their studies.

2. A new community at Utawala
Sister Aloysius and the sisters at Carmelvale have been working hard to establish a school and the convent at Utawala on a plot bought about 6 years ago. The school started functioning as soon as a part of the school building was ready . Class 7 will be opened next academic year. Sr. Mary Pereira is in charge of the school and Sisters Jessa and Rubini are on the staff.
The sisters go daily from Carmelvale to Utawala. In spite of all the hardships, Sister Aloysius supervised the construction of the buildings.
Now the convent building is almost ready and a new community will be established there soon.

3. A fifth Apostolic Carmel community and school at Noromoru

In 2005, a plot of land was bought in Noromoru in Nyeri diocese . The construction of the convent will start soon and then hopefully, a Primary school and other apostolic works will be started.

Renewal Programme for the young sisters at the A.C. Generalate,Bangalore, October 17-November 3

The Sisters started arriving from all over India, Sri Lanka and Kuwait from October 15 onwards. Sister Agnesita, the Programme coordinator and all other Generalate members welcomed them. Their faces beamed with joy at this opportunity given to them for the Renewal of their spirit and their lives. They were overjoyed to meet their novitiate companions and share their experiences.

Sister Agatha Mary met them personally and also took some sessions on prayer and vows before she left for Sri Lanka. . They will have an opportunity to take stock of the years gone by and of their life experiences. Stress management sessions and therapeutic yoga will revive their youthful spirit. The General Chapter theme of faith and contemplation will be emphasised through a study of St.Teresa and St.John of the Cross.

Self-knowledge is essential if we are to progress in spiritual life. Sister Vincent will be taking up Enneagram sessions in a very practical way which will enable them to grow in self awareness as a means to progress in a spirit of faith and prayer.

All of them are are in the age group of 35-45 years. So can we forget the midlife transition that they are going through? They will be given the helps needed to face these challenges and crises.

They are enjoying the serene atmosphere of the Generalate campus and a salubrious

climate of the garden city.
